And yes to the fire demon. I'm seeing something like that which I can't put my finger on but I feel like it's from Aqua Teen Hunger Force or something? It's driving me nuts
Right? It's sort of like Frylock upside down and on fire. But I can't quite place it. At first I was thinking the one from Howl's Moving Castle, but he's, like, round and non-scary. I'll bet it's something from early childhood deeply embedded in my unconscious. 1980s kids shows could be so fucked up.
I took it in undergrad (at a middling school) and have fantasize about studying it seriously someday when I'm old. It was one of those subjects that just clicked? Anyway, this is good enough for now and the class is fun! It's just really nice to be told what to think about for an hour or two, and have it be a positive thing? My partner is considering some Econ classes.
Anything that actually feels like personal growth right now is a godsend. But yeah--I kind of wish I'd taken more actual philosophy as an undergrad. I did cultural/intellectual history, so there was stuff like that woven in, but I'm a librarian now who helps people with critical thinking and evaluating sources, and there are definitely times when I wish I had, like, a list of logical fallacies imprinted on my brain.
Jealous! I was ALMOST a librarian. History major who did a lot of cataloguing for our library and Google and a few grad programs hollered but I got the opposite GRE results I needed so I... got a job in public radio? Joke's on me. Try this course, it's really interesting.
Honestly, dude, you'd be a really good information literacy librarian. I mean, let's look at The Dream: the power dynamics of the information landscape, ideological manipulation for profit, the logics people use to assess evidence--it's all there, and that's the same shit that I lose sleep over. And the fact that you can craft it into a digestible narrative...? Just saying, if you get tired of the fame and fortune of public radio, it'd be worth looking into. (And fuck GREs--a lot of programs don't require them anymore anyway.)
I love everything about this Friday Bargain Bin! I own many weird little items over the years that you've recommended, Jane. I love my Zennis and have about 20 pairs, and may as well get the pair in today's Bin. Probably going with the hot pink, though.
I've been using Zenni for years, they are awesome! I get so many compliments on my glasses. They upcharge for some things for people like me with very bad vision like thinning lenses and anti-scratch coating and so on, so they're not really $7 but they're cheap enough. For my everyday glasses with all the fixings I paid about $70.
I'm very lucky in that my vision problems come from a wonky eye that's a few millimeters off (and drifts further when I'm tired!) and a pretty mild prescription. I think my last order came out to $11 total? Glad to know you've had good experiences!
For the Rohrschach, I see a fire demon, which seems environmentally appropriate. But please tell us more about the logic class.

Jumped on that cardigan as a birthday present for my wife, thanks!
That's so sweet! I love it.
It will go well with the "Save Pennsylvania-Vote" t-shit I also got her (we live in PA).
